Finding the Beauty in Hell: Inside the Diablo IV and Han Kjøbenhavn Fashion Collaboration
Darkness fell on Milan Fashion Week, and it never looked better
The Devil is in the details, and in this case, we mean that literally.
Last week, Han Kjøbenhavn announced a jaw-dropping haute couture collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment that melded the Danish fashion house’s sculptural and “brutal” (their words) design aesthetic with Diablo IV’s vision of battle-scarred Hell. The surprise announcement took Milan Fashion Week by storm - and the Diablo-inspired designs that walked the runway to tease the collaboration turned heads and raised hell.
The collection - titled “Chthonic Penumbra,” which roughly means a dark shadow cast by an underworld deity – saw Han Kjøbenhavn Founder and Artistic Director Jannik Wikkelsø Davidsen’s handcrafted and welted boots, ripped and draped blood-red fabric, and chrome sculpture designs imbued with nods to Diablo IV’s Sanctuary realm and its Daughter of Hatred, Lilith.
“Working with Blizzard Entertainment is one of the most natural collaborations that I have ever done,” says Davidsen. “We share visions, aesthetics, and creative views, which has made it such a joy to work on this. The visual expression in the game and how I work have a lot of similarities and that has given me the opportunity to really combine the two worlds and the emotions attached.”
Davidsen would also relish the chance to make “hell a beautiful place,” and hopes that both Diablo fans and people who appreciate darkness as a creative nerve will embrace the collection.
The couture collaboration continues Diablo’s evolution as a source of creative inspiration beyond the world of gaming. At last December’s Game Awards, Diablo elevated the typical “street date announcement” into a musical extravaganza.
Diablo IV will be released June 6, 2023 worldwide.
