Mornin’. I just had breakfast, a.k.a. the time where my kid regales us with random trivia he learned from school TV.
Today’s gem: Did you know a banana is a berry? And despite its name, a strawberry is not?
Botanically speaking, a berry is a fruit that has seeds and, well, it’s complicated and full of science. Other berries, apparently: eggplants, tomatoes, and avocados.
Now I’m hungry again.

Buffed/Nerfed
What’s up and down in the world rn.
Buffed: Fast fingers. A man broke the world record for perfectly playing Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” at 300% speed in Guitar Hero. Don’t blink but we just tipped our hat to you—at 300% speed.
Nerfed: Cat fights. A leopard with questionable judgement tried to hunt a troop of baboons, who turned the tables and beat up the big cat. Talk about beast mode.
Buffed: My TV queue. The first trailer for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is out. It’s the anime adaptation of the movie that was based on the comic that was inspired by video games. Game on.
Nerfed: Fishy stories. A New Jersey town lost power after a bird dropped a fish(!) on top of a transformer, causing an outage. Fish fry, anyone?
Buffed: Breakfast. Eggo, the Kellogg Co. waffle brand, and Sugarlands Distilling are releasing a brunch-flavored liqueur that tastes like waffles, syrup, butter, and a hint of bacon. “Waffle” is our new favorite verb you can drink. —TL

Extractor: Why vinyl still rocks
Investigations of interest.
Although streaming has made movies more accessible to more people, there are still those who treasure their DVDs. You can download novels instantly on your eBook, but some people just like the feel of a book in their hands. And digital music playlists are great, but sometimes you just want to indulge in the snap, crackle, and pop of an old record.
Contributing writer Christine Champagne spoke with three vinyl collectors who came to their love of records in very different ways, and build their collections for very different reasons.
